ONE-TO-ONE WITH DESIGNER STEPHEN RICH

GETTING TO KNOW STEPHEN RICH

We chat with celebrated Johannesburg interior designer Stephen Rich. Stephen’s interiors are elegant, sumptuous, layered, and very considered. He creates spaces that are loaded with texture, materiality, and scale and are a feast for the senses. Stephen and his talented design team have an enviable portfolio of stellar projects under their belt. His furniture selection game is en pointe and we’re thrilled to call him our client. We’re keen to share some insights with you as well as show you a selection of his beautiful projects… we hope you enjoy.

What would you say you are known for?

I would say I am best known for creating extraordinary and innovative interiors for my clients with my sharp eye for elegance and functionality.

Where do you find your inspiration?

My inspiration comes from an accumulation of over 40 years of experience in the industry. My vast travels around the world inspire me to create new ideas and concepts for my clients.

What is your number one design tip?

Above all else, practicality.

Which of your projects are you most proud of and why?

This is a tough one, as I have worked on many amazing projects over the years. Two that come to mind are Werksmans Sandton, as this is an iconic building that brings classic and contemporary architecture and interiors together. Also, a residential project I did about 20 years ago in Sandhurst, where I believe some of my best work came to life.

Where have you used Core Furniture products before?

Core Furniture has been used in numerous projects of mine over the years. It is a product that is solid in its manufacturing, current in its look and design, and long-lasting… perfect for my clients.

How did you become an interior designer?

Simple, by default.

Why would you recommend Core Furniture’s offering to your clients?

I would recommend Core Furniture because of its quality and style.

Which Core Furniture product do you currently have your eye on?

We have our eye on the new Eichholtz collection, especially looking forward to using the Sofa Lindau and incorporating the sensational Eichholtz lighting range into our interiors.
